Dr. Shadi Farhangrazi, CEO, has been selected as one of the finalists for the Women in Pharma Award. 

Dr. Shadi Farhangrazi has been recognized and nominated for Northern Power House Ethnic Minority Powerlist Thought Leaders. This is a great recognition for Dr. Farhangrazi's tireless work on advancing therapies for neurodegenerative and rare paediatric diseases, promoting health equity and improving educational outcomes. 

Dr. Shadi Farhangrazi is a biochemist, neuroscientist, and infectious diseases expert with extensive expertise in emerging technologies, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She is the Chief Executive Officer, Co-founder, and Chair of the Board of Directors at S. M. Discovery Group (SMDG), an award-winning and pioneering company developing life-saving therapies for debilitating diseases. Under her leadership, the company has expanded its extensive IP portfolio and diversified its pipeline, most recently advancing a novel Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) platform that was recognized and shortlisted for an international award.

An internationally recognized speaker, Dr. Farhangrazi teaches and works globally, serving as an advisor and consultant to multinational corporations, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and biotechnology companies. Her advisory roles span diverse areas, including strategy, business development, product placement, market introduction, and global health. Over her career, she has contributed to multi-million-dollar projects with leading organizations such as Boeing Co., the U.S. State Department, The Home Depot Foundation, the ALS Foundation, and more than forty companies worldwide—ranging from early-stage enterprises to publicly traded corporations.

Her work has taken her from remote villages in Rwanda and the slums of Kenya and Mumbai to research parks in India and Malaysia, as well as high-tech hubs in Silicon Valley, the U.S., and Europe. She has collaborated extensively with international companies and organizations, engaging with global leaders and driving impactful projects across Africa, Europe, and Asia.

Dr. Farhangrazi has authored numerous scientific papers, articles, commentaries, reviews, and book chapters. She frequently speaks at national and international forums on topics including science education, neurological diseases, innovation, entrepreneurship, and the biotechnology industry. She has delivered hundreds of lectures and led classes and workshops across the U.S., Europe, and beyond, including specialized sessions on biotechnology leadership and management. Her expertise has been recognized in numerous media outlets, including National Public Radio (NPR), the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, American Medical News, Nature, the Daily Beast, and the Denver Post.

Previously, Dr. Farhangrazi founded and led Biotrends International, a global management consulting firm. She also served as an adjunct professor at University College, University of Denver, where she taught courses on entrepreneurship, innovation, strategy, and non-profit management. In 2015, she was a Visiting Guest Professor at Università degli Studi di Padova (Italy), where she co-taught the university’s first nanomedicine-business class with Professor Moghimi. 

Prior to that, Dr. Farhangrazi was the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Center for the Study of Orphan Diseases (CSOD), Research Assistant Professor of Neurology and Neurological Surgery, faculty in the Center for the Study of Nervous System Injury, and the Science and Business Liaison for the Spinal Cord Injury Research and Rehabilitation Program, at Washington University School of Medicine, Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery in St. Louis, Missouri.

 

Dr. Farhangrazi holds a Bachelors degree in Chemistry and mathematics from Weber State University, a Masters degree in Biochemistry with focus in Immunology, and a PhD in Biochemistry with focus in protein design and engineering from the National Center for Design of Molecular Function, Utah State University, and an MBA from the Merage School of Business, University of California, Irvine. She completed postdoctoral fellowships and research training in neuroscience at Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, and University of California, Irvine.
